Expectations and Team Building
PRACTICE COMMITMENT
Practices will be Sundays, and an undetermined evening.

SUNDAY PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY!

Practice sessions begin promptly following the IHSA State Tournament and will continue until the conclusion of the final tournament.
TOURNAMENT COMMITMENT
Tournaments include 10-12 playdates. It's important to note that a 2-day tournament counts as 2 playdates.

Tournament activities begin in January, and coaches will select events based on their availability, with scheduling extending as late as the end of April.
A minimum of half the scheduled tournaments will be within a 2-3
hour driving distance of Springfield. Maximum driving distance from Springfield is 4 hours.
CONFLICTS
We highly value your commitment and recognize the crucial role your athlete plays in our collective pursuit of growth and improvement. Your athletes’ presence in the gym enables us to fulfill our commitment to providing the necessary support for their development.
Furthermore, we firmly advocate for the universal well-being of athletes, emphasizing health, education, and family values. We understand that not all athletes have control over their schedules and attendance. If conflicts arise, we urge open and honest communication.
It's imperative to emphasize that Sunday practices are mandatory and non-negotiable. However, we acknowledge that certain circumstances, such as athlete illness or emergent situations, may warrant exceptions. Such exceptions are subject to the discretion of the head coach.
OPEN/CLOSED PRACTICES
Practices are open with limitations. No more than two guardians are
permitted to sit in. Due to insurance, safety and keeping good focus in
training sessions, there will be no exceptions.
Please note that practices may be closed if guardians continuously engage in behaviors including, but not limited to: coaching from the sidelines, distracting athletes or coaches, or physically entering the practice space.
ROSTER BUILDING
PVA has vacancies for 8-12 roster spots per team, with a maximum of 2 teams per age group. Tryouts are dedicated to the selection process aimed at meeting these roster requirements. The subsequent two practices will be devoted to finalizing team compositions.
Team formation prioritizes the following criteria, in order: Age, Position, Skill Level, and Attitude.

PLAYING TIME
At our core, we believe in the idea that playing time is something you earn, and it's influenced by many factors like consistent attendance, effort, coachability, and, sometimes, just having the right talent and timing. While we do our best to consider each player's skill, work ethic, and attitude when it comes to playing time, it's tough to guarantee equal opportunities for everyone. However, we understand how important it is for every player to have their chance to grow through playing experience. While winning isn't everything to us, we do recognize its impact on boosting team spirit and creating a positive environment where everyone can thrive and improve together.
